Emirates news agency – Hessa Buhumaid receives delegation from World Organization of the Scout Movement

DUBAI, August 18, 2021 (WAM) – Hessa Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development, received a delegation from the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), led by Ahmed Al Hendawi, Secretary General of WOSM.

The delegation also included Amr Hamdi, Secretary General of the Arab Scout Organization, and members of the UAE Scout Association, including Dr Salem Abdul Rahman Al Darmaki, President; Major General Abdul Rahman Rafi, Vice-President; and Khalil Rahma, Secretary General of the Association.

The visit is part of the Minister’s decision to host the World Scout Technical Assistance Team meetings, which will be broadcast worldwide from Dubai. The World Scout Forum will be held from August 18 to 22, while the World Scout Conference will be held from August 25 to 29, 2021.

Buhumaid underscored the ministry’s concern to support any event that conforms to the UAE leadership’s guidelines to improve the UAE’s global ranking.

She added that the scout movement reflects the worth and authenticity of Emirati citizens and their dedicated practice of giving, following in the footsteps of the late founding father Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and underlined the concern of the leaders of the United Arab Emirates and of the ministry to support the movement.

The ministry is also very keen to support the UAE Scout Association and help it accomplish its mission and strengthen its role, Buhumaid continued.

She invited the UAE Scout Association to organize some activities as part of the ministry’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai, and congratulated the Association for the opportunities it offers to young people, stressing the importance of include specific people.

Al Hendawi made a presentation on the partnerships made by the World Scout Organization with youth and volunteering organizations around the world, as well as their major impact in various countries as the largest and oldest voluntary movement in the world, spanning more than 100 years.

Dr Al Darmaki underlined that the association’s strategy 2021-2025 highlights a set of priorities, such as the engagement of young people, the integration of determined people and the strengthening of partnerships with voluntary authorities.

Meanwhile, Khalil Rahma said the UAE Scout Association, in cooperation with WOSM, will train a number of scouts on modern and advanced technologies.

Scheduled to see the participation of 6,000 Scouts from around the world, the World Scout Jamboree will be broadcast live and online (JOTA-JOTI) via the SAP pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai for more than, he added.
